Main Patch Area (highlighted in red)
Paston/Mundesley Cliffs - Only coastal area included in patch, views out over sea, farmland and a small area of cliff-top scrub. An area I've walked since a toddler.
Pigney's Wood - 23.5h site comprising of 1.7h Mature Woodland, 7.8h new woodland (planted 1994/5), 8.5h open ground, 5.5h low lying wet grassland. Also pools/scrape, reedbed and stream(disused canal).
Quiet Lanes - Large area of by roads North and North-West of North Walsham - I will concentrate on a triangle between North Walsham, Trunch and Lower Southrepps - Predominately hedge rows and arable land.
Knapton Cutting - Old Railway cutting now a Local Nature Reserve focusing on Butterfly conversation.
Felmingham Heath - 'Bryants Heath' - Site of the Battle of North Walsham 1381 during the Peasant Revolt. A small 12h site with a mixture Dry heath, wet heath and fenland. Contains many locally scares species due to its unusual habitat mix, on a small site.
Felmingham Cutting - A Butterfly Nature reserve along a short section of the old track bed 16 species of butterfly have been recored.
Other Local Sites (shown in blue)
Honing Lock and River Ant - Footpath following disused North Walsham-Dilham Canal, through wet woodland and grazing marsh.
Southrepps Common - 12.4h of woodland, reedbed and grassland. A Local Nature Reserve but also SSSI the site holds a wide selection of fauna and flora.
East Ruston Common - Small area of Heathland but also two large pools and reedbed.
Spa Common - Small hamlet on the edge of North Walsham, grazing meadows and marshland alongside the River Ant.
Witton/Bacton Woods - Area of Forestry Woodland, mainly made up of coniferous plantation but areas of deciduious trees and small area of heathland.
Owles Farm, Witton - Private farm with a mixture if agriculture, grazing, forestry and marshland.
Walcott/Ridlington - Sea frontage and low cliffs at Walcott, with arable fields inland towards Ridlington.
